The original artwork for this print was created for Tony Palmer’s 1970 novel, Born Under a Bad Sign (Gonzo Media Group). The book is “a collection of observations concerning the phenomenon incorrectly described as ‘pop music’, with some indication as to how this phenomenon has influenced the thinking and social habits of young people at the beginning of the seventies.”

The original artwork is all muted tones, line work and collage. Steadman repurposed the image, adding pops of colour to add extra dynamic to this portrait of The King of Rock and Roll.
